Wulfric: This is where your ship went down? Kainan: That's right. Wulfric: In a lake? Kainan: Don't ask. Freya: If you truly believe that you write the tale of your life, then the end is up to you. Kainan: This thing has carved out a territory and you're in it! Wulfric: We could have been friends. Kainan: We *are* friends.

- 'Renny Harlin' (qv) was originally slated to direct when 'Howard McCain' (qv) was pitching the script to film studios some years back.

- This is the first film in history to feature Old Norse, the ancestor of Modern Icelandic and several other Scandinavian languages. 'Howard McCain' (qv) used an Icelandic professor to help translate the dialogue and to teach the actors how to speak the ancient language.

- 'Karl Urban' (qv) was originally considered for the part of Kainan, but he pulled out due to delays in production and went on to film _Pathfinder (2007)_ (qv), another period movie involving Vikings.

- Originally the film was to be shot in New Zealand with a significantly higher budget. They already scouted New Zealand and Weta was going to do the effects. But the financing fell through and the production got delayed.

- 'Thomas Jane' (qv) and 'Sean Bean' (qv) were among those considered to play Kainan, before 'Jim Caviezel' (qv) agreed to the part.

- One of the shields in Shield Hall is painted like the Norwegian Flag.

- SPOILER: The ship that sails away with the dead vikings in the final scene has a sail that holds the colors, yellow and blue, of Sweden.
