Full Plot

Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison moves to a new district and is put in charge of a vice investigation instead of homicide. But soon a homicide case impinges on her new job when a very young male prostitute is murdered in the apartment of Vera Reynolds, a female impersonator. Soon Jane is on the trail of the boy's brutal young pimp (played by David Thewlis). But her investigation is complicated by the Old Boy's Network, which is spying on her and is more concerned with preventing scandal than bringing the villain to justice. Reid Gagle Having been passed over for promotion at Southampton Row police station, DCI Jane Tennyson's request for a transfer is approved and she finds herself heading the Vice Squad. They have a major investigation under way, known as Operation Contract, which is meant to root out a male prostitution ring involving underage boys. The day of her arrival coincides with a fire in which one of these young boys, Colin 'Connie' Jenkins, is found dead. There are several suspects including a known pimp, James Jackson as well as Edward Parker-Jones, the head of a local youth center where many of these boys congregate. As the investigation continues, Tennyson learns that Connie was trying to sell his story to a journalist with a promise to reveal an MP and very senior police officer as clients. In the midst of all this, Jane receives some surprising and potentially life-altering news from her doctor. garykmcd Plot not found

Quotes

DCI Jane Tennison: Have you ever had sex with a man? Martin Fletcher: Who me? No! DCI Jane Tennison: How about a blowjob? Ever done that? Martin Fletcher: Yeah, a few times when I'm broke. I ain't into that kind of thing, I've got other means of employment. DCI Jane Tennison: Oh yeah? Such as what? Martin Fletcher: Breaking and entering, nicking cars, radios, do a bit of begging. [Mockingly] Martin Fletcher: Sell my life story to the newspapers. DCI Jane Tennison: Now you listen to me, Martin. You think you can play games with us, lie to us and it's all a joke isn't it? Well it isn't! Colin Jenkins is dead! There's no one to claim his body, no one to even bury him. No one cares about Colin other than us - and you're next, Martin~ You're the next little dead body we found out there - you know that? Want people to care about you? Jessica Smithy: [Reguarding his tie] Choose them yourself, do you? Insp. Larry Hall: No - my girlfriend does. Jessica Smithy: I'd get rid of her if I were you. DS Richard Haskons: [Seeing pornographic pictures of boy prostitutes] I'm glad my kids is girls. WPC Kathy Bibby: You should see what they do to the girls. Commander Chiswick: [referring to Tennison] Who's idea was it to bring her here? Bloody loose cannon! DCI Jane Tennison: [to Otley] Dick around and see what you come up with on the quiet. DCI Jane Tennison: [to members of her team] So if any names come up on this tape, they are going to stay here in this office amongst us. because we are opening one very big can of worms. We're going to need hard evidence to back it up. Excuse the pun.

Trivia

- In his lecture at the beginning of the film, Jake says that all known serial killers are male -- with exception to a recent case in the United States. This is a reference to 'Aileen Wuornos' (qv), who was arrested and charged in 1992 for murdering seven men.
