Full Plot

Mary finds it hard to convince anybody, particularly Joseph, how she fell pregnant and, after she is attacked in the street as an adulteress,Joachim asks Joseph to take her to Bethlehem with him for her own protection. He reluctantly agrees but on the journey he has a dream which makes him more amenable to her explanation. The astronomers camp their caravanserai in the Judean desert and are visited by a wily envoy of Herod, who tries to trick them into leading him to the messiah. However they are cautious and fool him into believing they are returning home before heading for Bethlehem where a frustrated Thomas is considering violent revolt. don @ minifie-1 As Mary's pregnancy shows, all Nazareth scorns the 'whore', whose story nobody can believe, yet her father's pleas persuade Joseph to give her at least save passage as he moves to Bethlehem, where he has family. There Thomas's messianic faith weakens as his family starves. As the magi enter Judea, the royal counselor, who persuaded fearful half-Jewish king Herod to let him examine rather then arrest them at once, questions their plans, arrives, but they decline an invitation to Jerusalem and trick him into believing they returned to Babylon, while actually setting out for Bethlehem, city of David where the messiah is prophesied to be born.
