Quotes

Rick Grimes: Only one way to keep you alive. [chops off Hershel's leg] Daryl Dixon: We should go back. Carol Peletier: Could be romantic... wanna screw around? [Daryl gives her a look; Carol laughs] Daryl Dixon: [heads toward the ladder] I'll go down first. Carol Peletier: Even better! [laughs again] Axel: Holy shit! Lori Grimes: We need to talk about... Rick Grimes: About what? Lori Grimes: Things we've been avoiding... Rick Grimes: You wanna talk? Talk to Herschel. I'm doing stuff Lori. Things. Isn't that enough? I'm still here. Lori Grimes: You're right. I'm sorry. [Rick walks away] Maggie Greene: See that? Carol Peletier: That's not much, but if I don't bring you something, you won't eat at all. Daryl Dixon: Yeah, I guess little Shane over there has got quite the appetite. Carol Peletier: Don't be mean. Rick's gotten us a lot further than I thought he would, I'll give him that. Shane could never have done that. Rick Grimes: It's perfect. Hershel Greene: Bethy, sing "Paddy Reilly" for me. I haven't heard that, I think, since your mother was alive. Maggie Greene: Daddy, not that one, please? Hershel Greene: How about "The... Partin' Glass"? Beth Greene: No one wants to hear. Glenn Rhee: Why not? Beth Greene: Okay. Glenn Rhee: [singing softly] Of all the money / E'er I had / I spent it in good company / And all the harm / E'er I've ever done / Alas it was to none but me / And all I've done / For want of wit / To mem'ry now I can't recall / So fill to me / The parting glass / Good night and joy be with you all Maggie Greene, Beth Greene: [singing together] Oh, all the comrades / That e'er I had / Were sorry for my goin' away / And all the sweethearts / That e'er I had / Would wish me one... [Rick offers a bowl to Lori that Carl had passed to him for her] Lori Grimes: I had some. Maggie Greene, Beth Greene: ...more day to stay / But since it falls... [Rick still holds out the bowl, so Lori takes a piece of owl meat from it and adds it to hers] Maggie Greene, Beth Greene: Unto my lot / That I should rise and you should not / I'll gently rise / And I'll softly call / Good night and joy be with you all / Good night and joy be with you all Hershel Greene: Beautiful.

Trivia

- The group is using ancient Greek military formation called "the phalanx". It shows they are a team and no longer broken.

- In the comic, it was Dale rather than Hershel who had his leg amputated. The writers like to diverge from the original story to keep viewers guessing.

- Creator Robert Kirkman considers the prison to be a character in the show. The prison set was designed by a walker. Production Designer Grace Walker.
