- In the pilot the caption "Day 8,743" pops up when the Starks are introduced. This means they have been married for nearly 24 years.

- Though its not mentioned, the show is meant to take place in southeastern Pennsylvania.

- The school where Eddie and Jeff teach is loosely based on 'Josh Goldsmith' (qv)'s alma mater Cheltenham High School, where one of the history teachers is Charles Stamm. There is no vice principal named Mr. Woodcock at this time, there is however another history teacher named Mr. Woodcock who has a British accent.

- 'Kate Micucci' (qv) appears as a guest star in an episode in season 4 called 'Check Mate' as a waitress. She then later plays the part of Joy and Eddie's daughter, Ally Stark (one of the four different actresses that play Ally Stark.)
