Full Plot

Wreck-It Ralph longs to be as beloved as his game's perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix. Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes... so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun, Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan -- win a medal -- but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph's only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz, a young troublemaking "glitch" from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it's "Game Over" for the entire arcade? Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures The clumsy Wreck-It Ralph has been the villain of his video-game for thirty years, destroying a residential building while Fix-It Felix uses his powerful hammer to rebuild what Ralph has destroyed. During the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the game, Ralph is not invited to the party since nobody loves him. Ralph decides to win a medal to become a hero and he goes to the game Hero's Duty, commanded by the tough Sergeant Calhoun, where he sees the chance of winning the medal. Ralph collects the aimed medal, but when he is returning to his game, he brings accidentally one enemy Cy-Bug with him. Ralph accidentally crashes his plane in the kart-racing game Sugar Rush and loses his medal. When he is ready to retrieve it, the annoying glitch Vanellope von Schweetz takes the medal and uses it to dispute a kart racing in her game. Meanwhile Felix is seeking out Ralph to tell him that their game will be shut down since he is missing. Felix meets Sergeant Calhoun that tells him that the Cy-Bug would destroy any game and he immediately falls in love with her. Ralph helps Vanellope to build her own racing car and becomes her hero; but soon he is convinced by King Candy that Vanellope is just a glitch and she may destroy Sugar Race. Ralph destroys her car and her dreams expecting to protect Vanellope. But when he sees her picture on the cabinet of Sugar Race, he learns that something is wrong in the explanation of King Candy. It was good, though. [from trailer] Wreck-It Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz: Top shelf! [fist-bump] Wreck-It Ralph: They invited Pac Man? That cherry-chasing dot-muncher? Wreck-It Ralph: I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me. [last lines] Wreck-It Ralph: Because if that little kid likes me, how bad can I be? Surge Protector: Name? Wreck-It Ralph: Lara Croft. Vanellope von Schweetz: You really are a bad guy. Sergeant Calhoun: Doomsday and Armageddon just had a baby and it... is... ugly! Sergeant Calhoun: This is it, ladies! The kitten whispers and tickle fights end now! [repeated line] Fix-It Felix: I can fix it! Wreck-It Ralph: Felix? Mary? Anyone? Gene: Well, look who showed up. Wreck-It Ralph: Gene, where is everybody? Gene: They all left. After Felix went to look for you, they decided to bail out. Wreck-It Ralph: Okay, I'll go find Felix and bring him back... Gene: It's too late, Ralph. Tomorrow morning Mr Litwak's pulling the plug. However, never let it be said that I'm not a man of my word. [tosses the penthouse key at Ralph] Gene: Enjoy. Wreck-It Ralph: Gene, I didn't want any of this to happen... Gene: Then what did you want? Wreck-It Ralph: I don't know! I guess I just didn't want to be alone in the garbage anymore... Gene: Well, now you can be alone, in the penthouse. [repeated Line] Turbo: Turbo-Tastic! Wreck-It Ralph: Sometimes I think, man, it sure must be nice being the good guy. [Bad-Anon members applaud] Clyde: Nice share, Ralph. We've all felt what you're feeling and we've come to terms with it. Wreck-It Ralph: Really? Zangief: Right here. I'm Zangief, I'm bad guy. Bad-Anon Members: Hi Zangief. Zangief: I relate to you, Ralph. When I hit bottom, crushing man's skull like sparrow eggs between by thighs... and I think, why you have to be so bad, Zangief? Why can't you be more like good guy? Then I have moment of clarity... if Zangief is good guy, who will crush man's skull like sparrow's eggs between thighs? And I say, Zangief you are bad guy, but this does not mean you are *bad* guy. [Bad-Anon members agree] Wreck-It Ralph: Right... I'm sorry, you lost me there. Zombie: Zombie! Bad guy! Wreck-It Ralph, Bad-Anon Members: Hi Zombie. Zombie: Zangief saying labels not make you happy. Good, bad, nggghhhh... you must love you. Cyborg: Yeah! [Performs a Heart-rip Fatality on Zombie] Inside here! Clyde: Question, Ralph. We've been asking you to Bad-Anon for years now, and tonight you finally show up. Why is that? Wreck-It Ralph: I dunno, I just felt like coming. I mean, I suppose it has something to do with the fact that uh... well, today's the 30th anniversary of my game. Saitine: Happy anniversary, Ralph. Wreck-It Ralph: Thanks Satan. Saitine: Uh, it's "Saitine". Wreck-It Ralph: Got it. But here's the thing... I don't wanna be the bad guy anymore. [the Bad-Anon members gasp] Cyborg: You can't mess with the program, Ralph! M. Bison: You're not going Turbo, are you? Wreck-It Ralph: Turbo? No, I'm not going Turbo! Common guys! Is it "Turbo" to want a friend? Or a medal? Or a piece of pie every once and awhile? Is it "Turbo" to want more out of life? Zombie: Yes. Clyde: Ralph, Ralph, we get it. But we can't change who we are. The sooner you accept that, the better off your game and your life will be. Zangief: Hey, one game at a time, Ralph. Clyde: Now let's close out the with Bad Guy affirmation. Clyde, Saitine, Cyborg, M. Bison, Zombie, Zangief, Bad-Anon Members: I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be then me. [first lines] Wreck-It Ralph: My name's Ralph, and I'm a bad guy. Uh, let's see... I'm nine feet tall, I weigh six hundred and forty three pounds, got a bit of a temper on me. My passion level's very near the surface, I guess, not gonna lie. Anyhoo, what else, uh... I'm a wrecker. I wreck things, professionally. I mean, I'm very good at what I do. Probably the best I know. Thing is, fixing's the name of the game. Literally. Fix-It Felix Jr. So yeah, naturally, the guy with the name Fix-It Felix is the good guy. He's nice enough as good guys go. Definitely fixes stuff really well. But, uh, if you got a magic hammer from your father, how hard can it be? If he was a regular contractor, carpenter guy, I guarantee you, you will not be able to fix the damage that I do as quickly. When Felix does a good job, he gets a medal. But, are there medals for wrecking stuff really well? To that, I say, ha! And no, there aren't. For thirty years I have been doing this, and I have seen a lot of other games come and go, how sad. Think about those guys at Asteroids? Boom, gone. Centipede? Who knows where that guy is, you know? Look, a steady arcade gig is nothing to sneeze at, I'm very lucky. It's just, I gotta say, it becomes kinda hard to love your job... when no one else seems to like you for doing it. Sonic the Hedgehog: If you leave your game, stay safe, stay alert! Because if you die outside of your own game, you don't regenerate. EVER! Game over. Fix-It Felix: [goggles at Calhoun] Look at that high definition. You're gorgeous! [Ralph pounds a rock] Vanellope von Schweetz: What a moron. Hey genius, it's a jawbreaker, it's never gonna... [Ralph cracks the rock] King Candy: If Vanellope races, Ralph, she'll be in the game roster. When that happens, anyone who plays her in the game will see she's a glitch. They'll get the game removed, and we'll all have to leave our home... and there will be one who cannot get out. I know it's tough, Ralph, but being a hero means making the tough choices. [looking in the back room of Tapper's, Ralph pulls out red underwear] Wreck-It Ralph: Oh, come on Zangief... Wreck-It Ralph: What's going on in this candy-coated heart of darkness? Fix-It Felix: Do you have any idea what you put me through? I've been pushed around, abused, slapped at, and then I met this gal who gave me the honey blossom something awful... you don't get what it's like to have experienced what I did... Wreck-It Ralph: That's what I go through, every day. That's why I ran off. [Ralph returns to Vanellope with the fixed go-kart] Wreck-It Ralph: I know, I know, I know. I'm an idiot. Vanellope von Schweetz: And? Vanellope von Schweetz: [trapped in Sugar Rush] Just go, Ralph. It's okay. Wreck-It Ralph: [takes Calhoun's hoverboard] Mind if I borrow this? I've got some wrecking to do! Vanellope von Schweetz: You could stay. You could have your own castle, where you can wreck and stink as much as you want, and no one would ever treat you badly ever again. Wreck-It Ralph: Thanks. But I have my own game to go to, and though it's not as nice as this one... it's my "doodie". [both laugh] Wreck-It Ralph: [gives a cherry to the homeless Qbert and Co] Here you go, guys. It's fresh from Pac-Man. Fix-It Felix: Calm down, everybody! Ralph probably got drunk and passed out over at Tapper's again... Fix-It Felix: You are a real stick of dynamite. Sergeant Calhoun: [stops her ship] Get out! Fix-It Felix: All I said was that you're a real stick of dynamite... Sergeant Calhoun: I said GET OUT! Wreck-It Ralph: I'm a wrecker, not a baker. Vanellope von Schweetz: What's the deal over a crummy medal, anyway? Wreck-It Ralph: Hey, you know what? In my game, I'm the bad guy! I sleep in a dump, and just like you nobody respects me! And that crummy medal was my ticket to a better life! [last words] Turbo: Hey, where're you going? Oh, no! No! Gotta get away from the... oohh, pretty light... No no no! Don't go... don't... go towards the light... Fix-It Felix: It's my job to fix whatever Ralph wrecks!

Trivia

- Composer 'Thomas Newman (I)' (qv) was originally hired to write the score for this film before he was replaced by 'Henry Jackman' (qv).

- Unlike most animated films, the principal actors regularly recorded audio sessions together in the same room, a situation which led to a lot of improvising.

- Disney first began developing an animated film about the world of video game characters in the 1980s. At that time the project was called "High Score" and in the 1990s was titled "Joe Jump." In the 2000s, when the movie was finally pushed forward, the first two months of story development focused on Fix-It Felix Jr. as the main character.

- Early in production it was considered to keep all characters in their native graphic quality, essentially making Ralph look 8-bit the entire time. This was deemed too difficult for making Ralph a sympathetic, lovable character.

- A Nicelander that looked like 'John Lasseter' (qv) was designed but didn't make the final movie.

- During early production, Disney had Mario set to cameo in the film, but producer Clark Spencer claimed that they "couldn't think of the right way to incorporate him into the film".
